What is Support Center
Support Center is a Java-based program from Syntellect used to apply software updates (Partial Release Cycles, or PRCs) to Syntellect CIM servers.
Why did Syntellect develop Support Center?
We developed Support Center to
be an easier and more reliable way for customers to apply program updates to CIM.
What will Support Center do for me?
Support Center will provide a new level of automation and certainty to the application of updates. Support Center will:
1. Display release notes for this update.
2. Validate that you are applying the update to the correct version of CIM.
3. Ensure that your server environment is ready for the update: sufficient disk space, etc.
4. Perform a backup of application files to be replaced prior to applying the update to your server.
5. Warn you of customized files to be replaced, separately back them up, and remind you to reapply the customizations to the new version of the file.
6. Perform a list of actions to be taken on a server for review before the update is applied.
7. Automatically stop CIM services prior to applying the update.
8. Apply the update and extensively log all actions and any errors.
9. Automatically roll back the update if it fails and report on the failure and reason for rollback.
10. Separately, provide a history of all updates applied to the server.
11. Separately, provide the ability to roll back a previously applied update.
What versions of CIM utilize Support Center?
Support Center works with Syntellect CIM versions 6.6 and greater.
Can I still apply PRC updates the way I've been doing?
Support Center will be the only way to apply PRC updates to CIM version 6.6.0 and greater. The current manual method of installing updates still applies to
CIM versions prior to 6.6.0. Additionally, PRC updates to client applications (Agent, Resource Manager, Application Designer) and certain integrated
components (SCP-IVR and Business Objects, for example) in all versions are not performed by Support Center. In these examples the updates are bundled in the
PRC, but are installed separately outside of Support Center.
What will this first release of Support Center not do?
The first version of Support Center will apply PRCs only: it will not apply ERCs or FRCs. Support Center must be installed on each CIM server.
What future plans do you have for Support Center?
The first release of Support Center will enable the application of PRC updates to individual CIM servers. Future releases will enable the PRC updating of all servers within a node from one central server in the node. The ability to apply ERC's through Support Center is also planned.
